VEW RGW 1001 RED

Potentiometric position transmitter

Product information

The redesign of the electronic position transmitter RWG 1001 of the original manufacturer AUMA Riester can be used plug and play instead of the original device in the given application.

The device converts the resistance value of a transmitter potentiometer into a proportional current of 0/4 to 20mA.
The potentiometer is used to detect the angle of rotation in an actuator. The output signal of the RWG 1001 RED is used to control a follower and / or a electronic position indicator.

The potentiometers used are linear plastic flow potentiometers (value 4k7), which are connected to the actuator via a friction clutch and possibly a gearbox.
The device RWG 1001 RED is equipped with nom. 24V DC (± 15%) operated.
The output current is present as impressed current at a load of 0 ... 600W.

The device has an internal reference voltage source that feeds the encoder potentiometer.
With the side 20-speed spindle trimmers P1 and P2, the 0-point and the gain can be adjusted.

The initial value 0 or 4mA is set with P1, the output value 20mA with P2.
Since the electrical rotation angle of the encoder potentiometer usually does not correspond to the mechanical angle of rotation of the actuator, an adjustment according to the manufacturer's instructions must be made on the setting spindle of the reduction gear.

The manufacturer recommends:

1. Setting for actual value signal 0-20mA
1.1. Move actuator to end position "CLOSE" (corresponds to 0mA).
1.2. Turn adjusting spindle A of the reduction gear to the left (counterclockwise) to bring the encoder potentiometer mechanically into the initial position (a = 0). A slip clutch prevents damage to the potentiometer.
1.3. Turn potentiometer P1 to the right until the output current starts to increase.
1.4. Turn adjusting potentiometer P1 back again until a residual current of 0.1mA is reached. This ensures that the 0-point is not overrun.
1.5. Turn adjusting spindle A on the reduction gear to the right until the output signal of the RWG 1001 starts to increase. This is necessary, because with potentiometers the electrical angle of rotation usually does not coincide with the mechanical angle of rotation.
1.6. Move actuator to end position "OPEN".
1.7. Set the potentiometer P2 (gain) to the final value 20mA.
1.8. Approach end position "CLOSE" again to check setting, make any required correction.

2. Setting for actual value signal 4-20mA
2.1. Perform work steps as above under 1.1 to 1.6. described.
2.2. Adjust with potentiometer P2 (gain to 16mA.
2.3. Drive actuator to end position "CLOSE".
2.4. Set the initial value to 4mA with the potentiometer P1. At the same time the final value shifts by 4mA, so that now the range 4-20mA is passed through.
2.5. Approach both end positions to check again and, if necessary, slightly readjust.
